The Dwarf Green Jade (Portulacaria afra) is a compact, easy-care succulent that makes an excellent choice for bonsai beginners and collectors alike. Its small, rounded green leaves, thick woody trunk, and naturally branching growth habit give it the appearance of a mature miniature tree. Many of these specimens are trained in a root-over-rock style, where the exposed roots grow over and around the rock, creating a more dramatic and aged bonsai appearance. This variety responds well to pruning and shaping and is also very drought tolerant. Each plant is unique, so trunk shape, root placement, rock size, branching, foliage density, and overall size may vary naturally from the photos.

It can be grown outdoors in full sun or indoors with sufficient light.
🌡️ Temperature 🌡️
Portulacaria will tolerate a variety of growing conditions. Since it is tropical it must be protected from cold temperatures (below 45 degrees Fahrenheit).
💧 Watering 💧
Always allow the soil to approach dryness before watering. Although it is a succulent, Portulacaria is not as particular about overwatering as most other succulents.
🌱 Feeding 🌱
We use a slow release fertilizer like Osmocote which releases for 90 days
