- PLANT CARE
The Vietnamese Blue Bell (Trifidacanthus unifoliolatus) is an uncommon tropical species that has become especially popular among bonsai enthusiasts for its small foliage, interesting branching habit, rugged mature appearance, and striking purple flowers.
Native to parts of Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, the Philippines, Hainan, and the Lesser Sunda Islands, Vietnamese Blue Bell naturally grows as a small woody shrub. Its petite foliage and ability to develop woody structure make it especially attractive for bonsai cultivation. Jardins da Baía
One of its most desirable features is its small lilac-to-purple bell-shaped flowers, which provide a beautiful contrast against the green foliage when the plant is in bloom. Flowering is seasonal and depends on the plant's maturity, growing conditions, sunlight, and care, so plants are not guaranteed to arrive in bloom. Jardins da Baía
As the plant matures, it can also develop interesting bark, exposed roots, and distinctive woody spines. The botanical name Trifidacanthus actually refers to the unusual three-pointed spines that can form from older flower stalks, adding even more character to mature specimens. Jardins da Baía
This is an excellent species for someone looking for a tropical bonsai that is a little different from the more commonly available ficus, jade, or Fukien tea.
You will receive one similar plant shown in the photos. Every plant is unique and will vary slightly in trunk shape, branching, height, and overall appearance.
Please note: This is a nursery-grown pre-bonsai and has not been fully styled. Wiring, trunk movement, and branching will vary from plant to plant.

☀️ Lighting ☀️
Vietnamese Blue Bell enjoys strong light and warm conditions. When temperatures are suitable, it performs best outdoors where it can receive plenty of sunlight and good airflow.
Plants transitioning from a shaded nursery environment should be introduced gradually to stronger direct sun.
Strong light also supports compact growth and helps encourage flowering.
💧 Watering 💧
Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain freely.
Allow the upper portion of the soil to begin drying before watering again. Avoid keeping the soil constantly saturated, as this tropical species still requires good drainage and oxygen around the root system.
🌥️Weather☀️
Vietnamese Blue Bell is a tropical species and should be protected from freezing temperatures.
During warm weather it is best grown outdoors. In colder climates, it will need protection when temperatures drop significantly, particularly during winter.
